Dr. Kathleen Robinson

Send a condolence note

Laconia - Born the first day of spring March 20, 1921, Dr. Kathleen died at the St. Francis Home in Laconia on the 1st of April 2003. She was born in Southern India to Elsie & Claude Wilson where her father was a forest ranger for the British Forestry Service. Kathleen spent most of her younger educational years at British prep schools in England. She met her husband, Dr. Bernard Robinson, at the University of McGill Medical School in Canada. They married in 1945 and came to Laconia in 1947 to start their medical practice. She is survived by her five sons, Bill, John, Dick, Joe, and Mike. She has 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

"Dr. Kathleen", as she was known, was ahead of her time becoming one of only 5 women orthopedic surgeons in the U.S. during her medical residency. She went on to become the head of the Orthopedic department at Lakes Region General Hospital's and in her later years was the head of the chemical dependency program at LRGH until the Spring of 1988 when an unfortunate car accident caused serious head trauma from which she never fully recovered. She has been residing at the St.Francis Home for the past several years.

Along with raising five sons, Dr. Kathleen was very civic minded, doing much volunteer work in the community. She was active in the Catholic Church at St. Joseph's in Laconia, served at the clinic in Waterville Valley during the ski season, and was always there for her patients. She made house calls, and very often would exchange a cord of wood, some vegetables or apple pies for a broken arm or sprained ankle in lieu of payment.

A very vibrant woman, Kathleen loved to hunt and fish, cross country ski, swim, ride horses, garden and loved painting scenes of her world travels with water colors. Upon her retirement she had always hoped to go back to her native country, India, as a missionary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2003 at 9:00AM at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia, NH. Burial will follow in the Robinson-Dooley Family Cemetery, Gilford, NH.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to St, Francis Home Activity Fund c/o 406 Court Street Laconia, NH 03246 or to the Bernard and Kathleen Robinson Memorial Fund c/o Community Affairs Dept., LRG Healthcare at 80 Highland St. Laconia, NH 03246
